- HISTORY OF YAMHILL COUNTY SPORTSMEN'S ASSOCIATION -

The Yamhill County Sportsmen’s Association (YCSA) was founded in 1947 by County citizens who were avid hunters, shooters and outdoorsmen.  They wanted a location where they could share in their common interest in firearms, a safe place to shoot them and all other things associated with them.

The YCSA name came later...the founders originally named the club the McMinnville Gun Club and when chartered, it received an NRA Certificate recognizing it as such. The location of the YCSA clubhouse and range is alongside the banks of the North Yamhill River, not far from the neighboring steel mill and other businesses.  The range sits in a former quarry, which likely mined river rock years ago.

At some time lost in history, a group of motorcycle enthusiasts acquired the land for a club of their own.  The area did in fact provide reasonably flat terrain, where they could do some dirt biking before its time.  Regardless of the reason, it was from this organization the YCSA purchased the property and began its over 70-year history.

Today the YCSA is well established and thriving, with a Constitution and Bylaws to guide its maximum 200 members and a Board consisting of four Officers and five Members-at-Large.  What has made this club so successful is the members who volunteer their time and talents to add to the clubhouse and range facilities and, as important, maintaining them.
